The Board of Directors announced in late January the selection of Bonnie Biocchi to succeed Ted Welte as President and CEO of the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce.
Ms. Biocchi most recently served as the Massachusetts Office of Business Development’s Regional Director for the MetroWest and Central Massachusetts Area, where she linked businesses with both public and private resources to assist them in creating, retaining and adding jobs. Previously, Ms. Biocchi was Executive Director of the Nashoba Valley Chamber of Commerce. MeteoWest Chamber Chair Francis Colantonio, who chaired the selection committee, said: “Bonnie is a former small business owner with proven leadership, business development and communication skills. I have no doubt she will excel in this new role.”
Ms. Biocchi told the MetroWest Daily News (1/28) that she sees promise for economic growth in MetroWest, especially in biotech, financial services and information technology, industries she said “have a great workforce already in place.”
Born in Framingham and raised in Medway, Ms. Biocchi was, earlier in her career, Town Clerk of Groton, which “enabled me to learn a lot about municipal government and how it functions.” Colantonio told the News: ”She’ll be able to help navigate the state bureaucracy . . . and she comes with experience dealing with some of the legislators.”
Ms. Biocchi’s many achievements include successful management of government and community affairs for the Devens re-development project, which helped bring that sub-region back to life. She acted as a liaison to the business and residential communities, established rapport with incoming businesses, developed relationships with key legislative officials and coordinated public outreach efforts in conjunction with strategic business partners.
Retiring President Welte said of Ms. Biocchi: “I think she is the ideal person to succeed me in the position.”
